Alternate training Scheme (ATS) for Marine Engineering
Eligibility

One must be of Indian nationality and have age between 17 to 25 years. A pass in +2/Intermediate/PUC/HSC or any equivalent qualification with 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry & Maths. 50% marks in English either in 10th std. or +2 std. JEEE Ranking cadets will be preferred. Diploma holders OR B.Sc., degree holders are also eligible and they can apply only on the basis of their +2 background with 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics and 50% marks in English either in 10th std. or +2 std. Candidates wishing to join Marine Engineering must be Medically and Physically Fit with eyesight 6/6 permissible upto +2.5. Colour vision and Field vision should be normal. Normal in both ears. A minimum of 157 cms and 50kgs. 

ATS is divided into 3 phases with 12 months training (residential) at CSSM, 9 months training on-board ship as Trainee Marine Engineer, arranged by CSSM and 11 months training (residential) at CSSM. The most important aspect ATS is that the cadets are sent for this ship-based training in the second year for 9 months after successful completion of first year training at CSSM. During this on-board training, the cadets possess hands on experience on board. Therefore, they have ready market acceptance after completion of the course. Through ATS, one can swiftly become Chief Engineer in a short period of 8 to 10 years.

Entrance and Admission requirements

Candidates should undergo the following medical tests in any private or Government diagnostic centres (with a Government approved Doctors) prior to applying for the course, and attach the photocopies of the medical reports along with application. Original medical reports must be submitted at the time of interview. Blood test should include HB %, TC, DC, ESR, Blood platelet count, VDRL, Blood grouping and RH typing. X-ray should have Chest PA. ECG in all leads. Urine analysis. Eye test, Ear test.In case of Lakshadweep, Amindivi, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Assam and other hill areas including those from Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tirupura, Garhwar and Sikkim the candidate’s height may be reduced by 5 cm and proportionately the minimum weight should be 45kgs.

Course Fee and Scholorships

Total fee for 3 years is Rs 8 lakhs.
