In addition, interdisciplinary programmes in Catalysis Technology, Nuclear Engg. and Petroleum Engg. and M.Tech. in Clinical Engineering are also offered.
Qualification :
(a) Bachelor’s degree in Engineering /Technology /Architecture or equivalent, or Master’s degree in
Chemistry/Mathematics/Physics/Life Sciences or related subjects or Associate Membership in professional bodies as
such as AMIE etc. as specified in the M.Tech Admission website (http://mtechadm.iitm.ac.in)
or
(b) Degrees obtained through distance education/correspondence mode, the Departments will follow interview procedurefor screening in such cases.
For admission the candidates have to qualify GATE.
Candidates graduating/graduated with B.Tech. degree from IITs with CGPA of 7.5 and above for SC/ST category and 8.0 and above for others can apply without GATE score.
Tution fee per semester is Rs 5000.
a) Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology with valid GATE score or a Master’s degree in appropriate Sciences Management/Humanities and Social Sciences where eligible with a good academic record and a valid GATE score or CSIR/UGC NET/NBHM/CAT/AIMA or equivalent qualification tenable for the current year in the relevant areas.
b) Candidates having Associate Membership of the following professional bodies will also be eligible for admission to the M.S. programme of their parent discipline provided they have a valid GATE score and have passed both part A and part B of the Membership examinations with a good academic record.
The Institution of Engineers (India) (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communications), the Aeronautical society of India, the Indian Institute of Metals, the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and other professional bodies approved by the Senate from time to time.
c) Candidates having qualified in MFT (Major Field Test) will also be eligible for admission to the M.S. programme if the concerned department opt for it.
d) IIT B.Tech candidates with a CGPA score of 8.0 or above on a scale of 10 [SC/ST: 7.5 CGPA]
are eligible to apply for M.S. Programme
Tution fee per semester is Rs 3000.
A) Bachelors degree or equivalent in any professional discipline of minimum four years duration or
Masters degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, with a good academic record,
AND
B) A good score or pass in:
a) national level post graduate admission qualifying examinations such as
CAT/XAT/MAT/ATMA/GATE/ UGC or CSIR NET JRF or Lectureship or equivalent, or
b) International level post graduate admission qualifying examination such as GMAT/GRE or
equivalent
c) at least 3 years of managerial experience in lieu of the qualifying test. (This clause is only for
non-HTRA candidates)
C) Candidates having qualified in MFT (Major Field Test) will also be eligible for admission to the M.S.
programme if the concerned department opt for it.

Allocations of seats to individual Streams will be made based on the academic performance of students (CGPA) during the first three semesters, students' preferences, and availability of seats under each discipline.
ELIGIBILITY: Qualifying Examination (QE):Candidates applying for HSEE-2013should have either completed or should be appearing in 2013 in any one of the following qualifying examinations (QE):
• The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central / State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; or Equivalent.
With a minimum of five subjects.
One should note that courses which are preparatory in nature, without offering any degree are not considered equivalent to 10+2 system.
The students for the integrated Masters program at IIT-M are selected through the Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination (HSEE) conducted by IIT Madras every year in the month of May. The exam is highly competitive and only about 2 percent of the candidates taking the exam are finally selected for the course.
HSEE-2013 examination is of three hours duration and has two parts. Part I consistsof objective type multiple choice questions for 2½ hours duration (150 Minutes), administered through computer. Part II
involves essay writing for 30 Minutes to be written on answer sheet distributed to the candidates at the end of Part I. Part I covers the following topics: (i) English and Comprehension Skill; (ii) Analytical and Quantitative Ability; (iii) General Studies covering the areas of Indian Economics (since Independence), Indian Society, Contemporary World Affairs (post-World War II); and (iv) Environment and Ecology. Part II requires the candidate to write an essay on general topic involving description, or/and reflection or/and discussion.
One time fee is Rs 1750 and per semester fee is Rs 4,500.
IITM offers M.Sc in mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
Graduates in relevant stream are eligible.
Admissions are taken through JAM (Joint Admission test for M.Sc.)
M.Tech. in Clinical Engineering is a joint programme offered by IIT Madras, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Trivandrum, and Christian Medical College, Vellore. The M.Tech. programme is of two-and-a-half years duration. The students will study and train at all the three participating Institutes.
The selection will be done on an All-India basis, through a screening test and/or a personal interview of eligible candidates.
