College Description

Indian Institute of Technology - Roorkee is among the foremost of institutes of national importance in higher technological education and in engineering, basic and applied research. IIT Roorkee is the successor of University of Roorkee. Established as the Roorkee College in 1847, it was re-christened as Thomas College of Civil Engineering in 1854. It was made into the first technical university of the country in 1948. The institute has completed 160 years of existence. 

The Institute offers Bachelor's Degree courses in 10 disciplines of Engineering and Architecture and Postgraduate's Degree in 55 disciplines of Engineering, Applied Science, Architecture and planning. The Institute has facility for doctoral work in all Departments and Research Centres.a

The institute is spread over three campuses, with main campus at Roorkee, a 25 acre campus at Saharanpur and a 10-acre campus at Greater Noida, U.P. The institute boasts of fully-residential campus for both students and the faculty.

IIT Roorkee has a highly qualified and motivated faculty of about 400 members. They are also engaged in research and consultancy in addition to teaching. The faculty members offer their expertise through consultancy services to private/public sector industries as well as to Government agencies. The institute has about 4300undergraduate students, 2130postgraduates and about 1350 research scholars.
