Career Prospects
There are plenty of job opportunities for vets. In urban areas there is scope for small animal vets and dairy vets. Dairy farms, farm houses and zoological parks all offer good opportunity for vets. One can also become a Army officer. With higher education one can also think about career as a professor in veterinary college. Various research organizations like veterinary research institute, also offer good opportunity. Some vets also join corporate sector and work with companies producing food stuff for animals. There are a number of opportunities in NGOs/Societies working for the welfare of the animals and livestock owners like BAIF (Bharti Agro Industrial Federation), Help-in-Suffering, LPP, PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animal) etc.
A day in life
There is never a typical day in the life of any kind of doctor. The days are usually spent in diagnosing animals’ health problems, vaccinate their patients against diseases, medicate animals suffering from infections or illnesses, treat and dress wounds, set fractures, perform surgery, and advise owners about animal feeding. Sometimes there is an appointment for euthanasia.
