Introduction
— Francis Ford Coppola
What do film editors do?
Usually films are not shot in a proper sequence and thus an editor after fully understanding the vision of the director and needs of the audience puts the scenes together in a cohesive manner. They are involved in the post production process and puts all the ingredients like the visuals, visual effects, sounds, songs, voice-overs etc in proper sequence. Film editing is an art its not just about cutting and pasting scenes and dialogues, it is basically about picking the right scenes and sounds and creatively putting them together so that a story comes out which can hold the audience for 2-3 hours at a stretch. These days editors use various editing software and technology for their work.
